Brighter days ahead

It’s been three weeks ago now since my husband had his stroke

and today was another day of slow recovery while caring for three young children. Thankfully, his parents arrived into town early this morning to help put our torn apart house back together. We’ve been in renovation mode ever since we bought our old house which was over five years ago. Walls are broken apart, two-by-fours are exposed, and sheetrock lies bare and unpainted.

The night before my husband had his stroke he sat and planned out the week ahead: mudding and other renovation-related tasks. Scheduled for specific days.

But it never happened.

“The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps” (Proverbs 16:9).

Hidden Word Books began as a problem.

I no longer had extend quiet moments for scripture memorization and meditation. It frustrated me. I felt like my children were holding me back. My first daughter must have been about two or three when I realized I had effortlessly memorized all of her favorite books. Even at this very moment years later now in 2023, I could recite “Little Blue Truck” for you without even seeing the book. Not to mention “Moo, Baa, La La La,” “I Love You to the Moon and Back,” and more. This was irritating to me. Why couldn’t I memorize God’s Word?

Several months later I had my first prototype: a little 5.625” x 5.625” Psalm 19 board book from Pint Size Productions. My daughter and I memorized Psalm 19 together, and I can still hear her little 3-year-old voice saying “they are a maaaarrrvelous display of his craftmanship.”

Three years and two children later, I’m a mom of three, home educating, and starting a new business seems like a very silly idea. Is it pride? Or is this an act of obedience? Honestly, I don’t even know. But what I can do is make a plan, ask God for his wisdom, take steps of faith, and wait on Him to establish my steps. At this point, I do not know if Hidden Word Books will “succeed” or fail, but I can be sure that God is sovereign.

My hope through Hidden Word Books is to help other people fit scripture memorization into their lives no matter what season. I hope you will stay tuned and support this new adventure!
